Wes was born June 16, 1946, in Purcell, Oklahoma to Hubert Alvin and Mildred Inez (Reinhardt) Qualls. Raised in the close-knit community of Purcell, Wes graduated from Purcell High School in 1964, a testament to his enduring roots in this cherished town. Wes was inducted into the United States Army on September 24, 1966, proudly serving until his honorable discharge. In 1967, Wes married Vicky Broome in Oklahoma City, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that would enrich both their lives profoundly. Throughout his career, Wes dedicated many years to his occupation as a butcher, a role that exemplified his work ethic and commitment to service. Beyond his professional life, Wes found joy in simple pleasures that brought warmth to those around him. His passions included the serenity of fishing, the nurturing of a vibrant vegetable garden—often sharing his bountiful harvests with friends and family—and the art of woodworking, where his creativity truly shone. Wes's generous spirit extended beyond the confines of his home; he willingly offered his time and talents by singing at local nursing homes, bringing smiles and comfort to many. He also relished the routine of grocery shopping, often turning mundane errands into cherished outings. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington, Wes drew strength and solace from his faith, forming lasting connections with his church community. Yet, it was the moments spent with loved ones, particularly his grandchildren, that brought him the greatest joy.
Wes is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mildred Qualls; his sisters, Norma Qualls, Inez Stephens, and Mary Ann Qualls. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Vicky Qualls; his daughter, Sherri Bonner; his son, Terry Qualls and wife, Sara; his grandchildren, CeJay Bonner, Lynsey Bonner, Beau Qualls and wife, Taylor, Mason Qualls, Kaden Qualls, Teagen Qualls and wife, Destiny; his great grandchildren, Brooks Qualls, Westin Qualls, Adeline Qualls; his brother Richard Qualls and wife, Sandi; and numerous other relatives and friends.
As we remember Wes, we celebrate a life richly lived, a heart warmly given, and a legacy of kindness that will endure in the memories and lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire those left behind, reminding us all of the value of family, friendship, and the simple joys of life.
