Ola Mae Barnett left her Earthly family and entered her new Heavenly home March 8, 2022, in Noble, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years 1 month 4 days. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 12, 2022, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Ola Mae was born February 4, 1934, in Washington, Oklahoma to Walter and Faye (Andrews) Madden. She was raised in Washington, graduating from Washington High School in 1952. Ola Mae married Bill Atkinson in 1952, and together they raised three daughters on their farm. They won the WKY-TV Farm Family of the Year in 1973. Ola Mae owned Hair Affair in Lexington and worked there as a beautician for fifteen years. She continued her work in Purcell at two other salons before styling hair at Wadley Care Center for three years, and volunteering in the Purcell Municipal Hospital gift shop for seven. Ola Mae loved all things beauty and thoroughly enjoyed doing hair and makeup. Her greatest joy, however, was being a ‘mama’ and a ‘grandma.’ Ola Mae loved spending time with her family and cooking for large Sunday dinners. When the grandkids came over, you could guarantee she would have sweets waiting for them. Ola Mae also enjoyed sewing, dancing, gardening, fishing, and being outdoors. She was a huge sports fan and would watch games any chance she had, especially when her beloved OU Sooners were playing. If there wasn’t a game on TV, she loved to watch Wheel of Fortune. The memories made with ‘Mama’ will never be forgotten.
Ola Mae is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Faye Madden; her brothers, Robert Madden, Harold Madden, Aaron Madden, Bruce Madden; her sisters, Thelma Looman, Wanda Stufflebean, and Sue Melton.
