Monica Kelly Hack died December 14, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 61 years 3 months 1 day. A rosary/wake service is scheduled from 6PM to 8PM, Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Konowa, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Monica was born on September 13, 1962, in Ada, Oklahoma to the proud parents James Elmer and Martha Bell (Stark) Johnston. She spent her formative years in the Purcell area and went on to receive her education from Purcell High School where she graduated with class in 1980. In the journey of her life, Monica married Cliffton Penner after completing her studies. However, it was Eugene Hack who would later become her devoted and beloved husband, celebrating a decade together this year. Monica possessed an incomparable work ethic and pursued a career as a journalist before becoming an esteemed editor for a reputable newspaper. Her commitment to truth-seeking imbued every word she wrote. Her passion for expression led her to indulge in writing articles, stories, and poems. Alongside her literary pursuits, Monica found solace and pleasure in immersing herself in books. An adventurous spirit coursed through Monica's veins and she found solace amidst nature's grandeur. The solace of gardening and the joy of the great outdoors were integral parts of her existence. She embraced an active lifestyle, always on the go, cherishing moments spent with her cherished family, especially her adored grandchildren. Monica's creativity was evident through engaging in arts and crafts whenever she found herself in their tender presence.
Monica is preceded in death by her parents, James and Martha Johnston; and her brother, James Johnston. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Hack; her daughters, Shallon LaFleur and husband, Josh, Star Dodson and husband, Gary, Summer Penner, Shamra Williams; her brother, Jay Johnston; her sister, Mary Johnston; her 14 grandchildren; her 3 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Monica's memory will forever be etched in our hearts for the light she brought into our lives.
