Mary Edith Long died April 10, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years 2 months 6 days. Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Westlake Presbyterian Church in Bethany, OK, entrusted to the care of Wadley's Funeral Service.
Edith was born February 4, 1931, in Wapello, Iowa to Elbert and Tina (Agy) Schroder. She was raised in Keithburg, Illinois, graduating in 1949. It was in that same year that she joined hands in marriage with Theodore Long in New Boston. Throughout her life, Edith found solace and joy in handwork, particularly in the art of knitting. Her skilled hands crafted exquisite baby clothes for countless charities, showcasing her generosity and compassion. In more recent times, she devoted her talents to creating prayer shawls for those battling against the adversity of cancer. Not only was Edith adept with her needles, but she also shared her melodious voice as a choir director for many years. Her dedication to music lifted the spirits of many congregants. Additionally, she selflessly served as a church elder and imparted wisdom as a Sunday school teacher, touching the lives of those around her with kindness and grace.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 2 children. Survivors include her daughters, Ellen Barber, Tina Hardigree, Nita Pits; her son, Michael Long; her 14 grandchildren; her 30 great grandchildren; her 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous other relatives and friends.
