     Joe Ray Mantooth died August 27, 2024, in Purcell at the age of 68 years 4 days. Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

     Joe, lovingly know as Curly, was born August 23, 1956, in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Jerry Leon “Jody” and Dorothy Lee (Scott) Mantooth. Raised in Lindsay, Oklahoma, Curly completed his education at Lindsay High School in 1974, and subsequently devoted himself to a life marked by love, hard work, and dedication. On November 28, 1997, Curly wed Mercedita Bales, in a heartfelt ceremony in Caloocan City, Philippines. Together, they established their home in Curly’s hometown of Lindsay, where they cultivated a life filled with joy and shared dreams. For many years, he served as a Drilling Consultant for Nabors Arabia, proudly retiring in 2015. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Curly was a passionate farmer and cattle rancher, known for his remarkable skills and precision, showcased by his reputation as an excellent marksman. His leisure moments were often spent immersed in the stories presented by Fox News or delighting in the treasures revealed on Antique Road Show. Curly was known for his distinctive phrase, “Too Much Good,” which encapsulated his sunny disposition and appreciation for the joys of life. Above all, Curly’s heart resided with his family. He relished every opportunity to gather with loved ones, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. His adventurous spirit also led him to explore the beauty of national parks, where he and Mercy shared unforgettable sights and experiences. Curly leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a commitment to family that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. 

     Curly is preceded in death by his parents, Jody and Dorothy Mantooth; and his brother, Richard Mantooth. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Mercy Mantooth; his daughters, Jennifer Mantooth Moore, Amber Mantooth Mitchell and husband, Joseph; his grandsons, Bailey Moore and wife, Melisa, Blaine Moore, Camden Mitchell, Jaxson Mitchell; his brother, David Mantooth and wife, Shelley; and numerous other relatives and friends.
