Jimmy was born April 27, 1949, in Purcell, Oklahoma to Roy and Almeda (Oswalt) Keith. A proud 1967 graduate of Moore High School, Jimmy’s thirst for knowledge led him to Southwestern Oklahoma, where he earned a degree in History and Recreational Leadership in 1972. In that very year, courageous and adventurous, he joined the Peace Corps, embarking on a transformative journey to Nepal, where he dedicated two years to teaching as part of the State Department in an international school. This chapter of his life not only enriched his own spirit but also left an indelible mark on the hearts of numerous students. Returning to the United States in 1978, he worked for Earl Oswalt for eight years, always driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to his community. On a beautiful December day in 1981, surrounded by the majestic mountains of Telluride, Colorado, Jimmy exchanged vows with Cheryl Thompson, celebrating a profound partnership that flourished for over 43 cherished years. In 1988, Jimmy embraced a new calling with the Department of Corrections. His career culminated in his role as Warden when the department transitioned to a private company in 1997, ultimately leading to his well-earned retirement in 2010. Outside of his professional endeavors, Jimmy found joy in fishing, hunting, and the art of re-purposing items, transforming them into treasures of utility. An avid traveler, he and Cheryl revisited Nepal after retirement, a place that resonated deeply within his heart, while also exploring the vibrant cultures of Colombia and Thailand, where he shared laughter and camaraderie playing golf with his Tibetan and English friends. Jimmy’s love for cooking and his family defined his life, offering warmth and unity. He leaves behind a legacy rich in love, adventure, and a commitment to making the world a better place. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him, celebrating a life well-lived.
