Jimmie Dale “JD” Turnpaugh died August 11, 2023, in Lindsay, Oklahoma at the age 88 years 9 months 1 day. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Lexington Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Jimmie was born November 10, 1934, in Box, Oklahoma to Cecil and Nicye Tura (Tully) Turnpaugh. Growing up in the Box area, he completed his education at Wanette High School in 1952. On November 10, 1953, he married his sweetheart Anna Shirlene Stover and enjoyed a remarkable union that lasted over 36 years until Shirlene's passing. On August 5, 1990, JD found love once again when he married Patsy (Smith) Thompson. Together they recently celebrated an impressive milestone of 33 years together. Throughout his career, JD served as a dedicated maintenance superintendent with the State of Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Although JD possessed many interests and hobbies such as fishing and hunting, playing dominoes and fixing things; he had a passion for playing the bass guitar at his church. He was a member of the Living Word Cowboy Church in Bradley. His music brought joy to many hearts throughout his lifetime. Above all else, JD treasured moments spent with his family. Whether it was commemorating a holiday, a birthday, or any occasion, the opportunity to be surrounded by his loved ones brought him boundless happiness.
JD is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Nicye Tura Turnpaugh; his first wife, Shirlene Turnpaugh; his stepdaughter, Tonya Thompson; his sister, Wanda Kersey and her husband, Kenneth; his sister, Ruth Jones; his brothers, Scotty Turnpaugh and Paul Turnpaugh; and his brother-in-law, Debbs Lambdin; his nephews, Greg Cryer and Michael Turnpaugh.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Turnpaugh of the home; his daughter, Karen Ladusau and husband, Chris of Lexington; his son, Jimmie Turnpaugh and wife, Shirrel of Macomb; his daughter, Tammy Lee and husband, Mike of Lexington; his son, John Turnpaugh and wife, Heather of Lexington; his stepsons, Monte Thompson and wife, Shelly of Davis, Matt Thompson and wife, Tammy of Washington, Marty Thompson of Dibble, Michael Thompson and wife, Lory of Washington; his sisters, Mayme Joan Lambdin of Norman, Kaye Cryer and husband, Richard of Norman; his sister-in-law, Alene Turnpaugh of Braggs; brother-in-law, Earl Jones of Centrahoma; 26 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
