James David Stone died May 16, 2023, in Purcell, Oklahoma at the age of 62 years 5 months 2 days. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
James was born December 14, 1960, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to Elmer Charles and Rose Louise (LaGrone) Stone. With Elmer in the military, James and the family were raised across the United States. They were stationed in Great Mills, Maryland, where James graduated from school in 1979. He was inducted in the United States Marine Reserves on September 25, 1980, proudly serving until his honorable discharge. James continued his education with a vocational school. He worked for many years as the maintenance supervisor for multi-family complexes around Norman. James enjoyed tinkering and repairing items others have discarded, and giving them, fully functional to families in need. He also enjoyed helping and being a mentor to people on how to fix things in their home. James was a story teller, and enjoyed a good joke. He was a collector of tools, knives, stereo equipment, electronics, and enjoyed globes, maps and atlases.
James is preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam Stone, Ruby Jewel (Warren) Stone, Fannie Sanders, and David LeGrone; his sister, Linda Miller; and his brother-in-law, Gary Horton. Survivors include his mother, Rose Raines of Purcell; his father, Elmer Charles Stone and wife, Phyllis of Noble; his sister, Sharon Horton of Lexington; his brother, Chuck Stone and wife, Mandy of Lake Dallas, TX; his step brother, Larry Long and wife, Missy of Noble; his brother-in-law, Robert Miller of Oklahoma City; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Horton, Jason Horton, Michael Horton, all of Lexington, Lacie Bowlware and husband, Ben of Edmond, Ryan Savage and wife, Dr. Kali Kuhlenschmidt of Dallas, TX, Scott Wilson and wife, Megan of Oklahoma City, Sam Wilson of Oklahoma City, Sarah Weskamp and husband, Kyle of Springdale, TX, Jessica Wallace and husband, Lyle of Dallas, TX, Hunter Long and wife, Natile of Norman, Trevor Long of Noble, Joshua Long and wife, Bailey of Norman; and numerous other relatives and friends.
