Hughes Thomas Hottel died February 4, 2019 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 101 years 6 months 25days. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, February 22, 2019 at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at the Kieth-Fairview Cemetery in Burlington, Oklahoma, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Hughes was born July 10, 1917 in Stratford, Oklahoma to George T. and Anna Belle (Perkins) Hottel. One of 19 children, Hughes was raised and attended school in Stratford. He was inducted into the United States Army on September 24, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He proudly served during World War II, being honorably discharged December 19, 1945. In 1948, he married Inez Louise Cook in Alva, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Burlington, Oklahoma area, moving to Purcell, Oklahoma in 1971. Hughes and Inez both loved camping and were members of the Good Sam Camping Club, as well as the Purcell Senior Citizens. Hughes loved playing card and dominoes, and loved to win. He enjoyed gardening, raising bees and selling the honey. Hughes shelled and sold pecans and had a quite sense of humor. He loved sitting on the driveway in the sun, keeping watch, and hanging out with his neighbors and friends.
Hughes is preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Belle Hottel; and wife of 60 years, Inez Hottel. Survivors include his stepson, Marvin Marsh and wife, Doris of Manhattan, KS; (3) step grandchildren, Debra Marsh and husband, Tim of Newport Beach, CA, Terri Maybee and husband, Michael of Manhattan, KS, Mike Marsh and wife, Tara of Manhattan, KS; (7) step great grandchildren, Erin, Elicia, Emilee, Christy, Kelli, Rachel, Carson; (5) step great-great grandchildren, Jessie, Jaxon, Isaiah, Isabelle, Ommie; and many other relatives and friends.
