Bonnie L. Shobert

September 4, 1929 — September 2, 2023

Lexington, OK

Bonnie L. Shobert died September 2, 2023, in Lexington, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years 11 months 29 days.  A family visitation is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Wadley’s Funeral Service.  Graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Lexington Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

Bonnie was born September 4, 1929, in Corbett, Oklahoma to Dave and Myrtle (Latimer) Smith. She spent her formative years in the tight-knit Corbett community. After attending small community schools, Bonnie embarked on an academic journey that culminated in her graduation from Lexington High School in 1948. In Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Bonnie married Oneal W. Shobert on June 4, 1949. The beginning of their union saw them residing in modest apartments closely connected to their places of work for eleven years. In a testament to their resilience and devotion, they went on to build their family home in the Slaughterville area in 1961—a loving abode where Bonnie created cherished memories until her final day. Bonnie dedicated an admirable thirty-eight years of her life to Central State Hospital in Norman. Within the hospital's walls, she embraced various roles and responsibilities over the years. Starting off as a compassionate Nurse Aide, then  working in Laundry before finding her passion within clerical and accounting work in the business office. Bonnie began her journey at Central State in the Lexington Annex in 1948 and, after transferring to the main hospital in Norman in 1971, she continued her dedicated service until her well-earned retirement in 1986. Bonnie was a person of few words, often described as gentle and reserved. Her character shone with an unwavering commitment to truthfulness and an unwavering aversion to gossip or criticism. When called upon, she would graciously offer her candid and unfiltered opinions. She delighted in the quiet joys of reading, homemaking, and nurturing her loved ones within the confines of their cherished home. Above all, Bonnie seized every opportunity to immerse herself in the embrace of her family's love.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Myrtle Smith; her husband, Oneal Shobert; her siblings, Ruby Rose, JB Smith, Aline Blumhoff, Vautress Nicholson, Lawrence Smith; her grandson-in-law, Mike Gilmore; and nephew, Mike Nicholson.  Survivors include her daughter, Linda; her grandchildren, Jana (Todd), David (Christian), Neal; her great grandchildren, Cole and Jordan; her sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
